I have small scotoma in both eyes. It started in May 2000. I have bright flashes in either eye which usually subside without leaving any symptoms. Occasionally I am left with a depression of vision in that area, they do not appear to improve over time. I am guessing there is some retinal damage. They vary in size, mainly dots, about 7 in the lhs eye and 5 in the rhs eye. The occurrence seems unpredictable, although stress could play a part.
It was suggested I try aspirin which has helped a bit. The symptoms continue recurring several times a month, with new permanent damage 1/2 a year. I have had my blood sugar tested but it seems ok. I am reasonably fit, can run 4 miles no problem, although have a slightly prolapsed mitral heart valve. I have been to the eye eye clinic about once a year since the onset of symptoms, they have provided no clues at all. They dont seem to have any sense of urgency. It is an annoyance now, but in the future it will be more serious if I cant find some help.
