I am an 18 year old girl, and I have NEVER had regular periods ever since I got it when I was 12. I am of healthy weight for my age, so that has nothing to do with it. When I was about 14 I had an episode where I got an extremely heavy period whith painful cramps for a month. I became sick and anemic, I was miserable. Well they put me on birth control simply to regulate my periods.

Recently, I didn't my period for 4 months, and I haven't been on birth control. They did a pregnancy test just to make sure and it came back negative. My doctor put me on Provera for 10 days to induce a period, and gave me birth control (Ortho Tricyclin Lo) to take the first day I get my period and he said that should regulate it. My period started, but now it won't go away. I have been bleeding for a month again, with no signs of it stopping. Its not as heavy of a flow as when it happened when I was 14, but the cramping is just as bad with sometimes sharp pains in my lower abdomen that goes away with a second or two. I feel exhausted and tired, I have no evergy and feel like my lower abdomen is bloated.

My gyno hasn't done too much testing, and I hasn't given me much feedback on what it is that could be causing all this. They also did bloodwork and my platelettes were high, but everything else was fine & it showed I wasn't anemic at all despite bleeding for a month.
This whole situation is just completely frustrating and I was just seeing if ANYONE had any clue what could be causing all this or if anyone has had the same experience. Pleeeeease!

  • Sounds like endometriosis. I just will never understand why doctors rx birth control pills for this - if it doesnt solve the problem, it seems to make it worse. At least it did for me. I use natural progesterone cream. Your mileage may vary...Antidote for Endometriosis

  • Thank you for the feedback. I am going in sometime next week to get an ultrasound, so I will bring up endometriosis while I'm there. Hopefully it all gets cleared up soon before I tell them just to schedule a hysterectomy just to make it all stop!
