black vomit

I had a queasy stomach and drank a lot of water that seemed to just slosh around for a few hours. I didn't feel really sick just not like eating dinner and them I stood up to brush my teeth and was slammed by the overwhelming sense that I was going to lose consciousness and this kept coming in waves with stomach cramping and vomiting really dark brown to black vomit. I had had a bowel movement earlier in the afternoon that was half normal and half really black and I thought it was a bit weird. Then this vomiting and feeling of passing out. It came in waves so I would feel alright for a while and then some more would come. When I was empty then I fell asleep. I stayed in bed the next day even though I felt much better no cramping and I ate only crackers and drank apple juice and felt pretty weak. I had only one bowel movement the morning after the vomiting and that was black, but haven't eaten enough since to see what might come out. Today I ate breakfast and lunch and dinner and have not had any stomach pain or nausea but went online to look up black vomit and got scared to death as it said that I must have something terribly wrong. I feel okay though just a bit tired. I live in Cambodia so just running out to get some tests is not the easiest thing in the world to do any ideas what might be my problem. I had eaten nothing that should have made the vomit dark in color as I had mostly just drunk a ton of water, and all I had eaten was some hummus that I had made with peeled cucumber, carrot and some water crackers. Thanks

  • Black vomit means you are bleeding in your stomach. You need to be check out ASAP if you have not done so already. Yellow fever can cause this, which you can get in your location, but I would assume that would not be your only issue if you had that problem (unless you had a fever sometime in the recent past)

  • I wish I could give you some help but I too am searching for an answer also. I was in Thailand and suddenly got sick and started vomiting. About every hour I would vomit. After vomiting I felt better for 10-15 minutes but soon after became more sick until I vomited again. The vomit was always dark/black. I did not drink alcohol or do I take drugs. I never have had stomach problems. I went to the hospital and was confined as an inpatient for 2 days. When I asked the doctor what the problem was, he said "stomach problems" Dah!!! The problem went away and I never did figure out what the cause was. Since that date I have been perfectly healthy. I am sure the problem was not cause from bleeding. I suspected some type of poisoning but I am not sure.
