Hi,

I'm an active sportsman but over the last few months have been having some really bad pains in my left tibia.

To give a quick background, I play tennis, soccer and do a lot of running. I'm very active and do one of those for at least 1 1/2 hours every day.

I was told this morning that the problem is my joint, but I just don't believe that the pain in the middle of my tibia can be coming from the joint, and I think it is something more, since from reading around I don't believe the joint could send so much pain to such a directed spot in the middle of my tibia.

Now about the pain, it occurs whenever I do any physical activity, and even when I am walking for over 10 minutes. There is some small pain at the top of my tibia where the joint is but the most pain is in the middle as I stated, in a very exact spot which hurts to touch whilst doing sports or long walks. The pain goes away around 1/2 to 1 hours after stopping the activity if I do it for a long time. I went for a run on Friday, and I stopped as soon as the pain came, let it go away and then it came back faster than before when I started and it progressively gets worse.

The pain is really sharp and at points after the activity, I just have to hop on my right leg so not to cause pain on my left leg.

Please help me, I just have a huge feeling in my gut that this is something more than the joint since the pain is in such a pinpoint location so far away from the joint.

If you need anymore info to help diagnose then just ask away :)

Thanks,
Lewis

  • Couple of things...-how old are you?is there day you don't do sports?, what happens then?Sounds (without the previous questions answered) you are in your 30's and you play sports most days of the week. your symptoms began after a certain date, and have not stopped since.. but have you stopped any more than 3 days putting weigh on that leg?if you stop your sports, and your pain stops... you may have a fracture. a stress fracture. xrays will NOT diagnose it. you may need an MRI to localize it.weather you do xrays or MRI, the treatment is the same....keep off your leg for a good 3 weeks (use crutches/ soft padding) while the fracture heals.sports doc (rehab oriented or Ortho oriented) may help more on this regard.hope that helps.
