Hi, This morning when sitting I had a very tender back on my left hand side below the level of my iliac crest. Upon palpating this area I found a swollen mass which was very tender but could be moved relative to my skin. Anyone any idea what it is? I don't know if it warrents going to the doctor...

  • If it doesn't go away within a few days, and continues to bother you, I'd consider going to a doctor for it- perhaps they can biopsy it and the pathologist can tell you what it is.As a doctor yourself, you are aware that there are good doctors and not-so-good doctors. Sometimes you have to go through some awful ones to get to the good ones who can diagnose you (or who are honest enough to say "I don't know"). This was my experience, anyways.Best Wishes with your back pain.I hope you get a proper answer soon.

  • well I have to say it is pretty scary to hear a doctor say they don't trust doctors! Hmmm, just as I suspected! Have a spouse or SO take a look at it, is it an inside pimple or the beginnings of a mole? Might try warm moist heat for a pimple.....My rule of thumb is two weeks,....if it is not gone or better....despite what you think about doctors (and you are not alone here)......go to a DOCTOR.
