Can anyone help. I have had on and off back pain, very severe sometimes since 30th May 2009. It has got me admitted to A&E 3 times, upon the 3rd time I got told I had faecal impaction. I have been trying to control the constipation with Movicol 8 sachets a day, weaning down to about 1-2.
I also eat a handful of nuts each day, drink concentrated orange juice, east bran and fibre - all the things that keep you regular. Whilst I am taking the Movicol I am fine, but the minute I try to come off and have none for about a week, the pain always comes back. I have had a gastroscopy and that’s all fine and dandy! I am having an ultrasound of my abdomen on 18.9.09, but I think it is a waste of time as the pain is directly between my shoulder blades. I have had numerous massages and there are no trapped nerves. I feel as though I am constantly constipated 24/7!!! When will this ever go away. Surely I cannot be this full day in day out. What can I do next as my GP just does not seem to be interested :(

Pain between the shoulder blades is very often referred pain from conditions up under the diaphragm, such as excess gas or gallstones. Do you sleep with several pillows? If not, you definitely should! Good luck! Cindy, RMA, Boise Idaho USA

  • I agree with the gall bladder suggestion. I, my mom, my step daughter and jsut about anyone who has had gall bladder issues has a pain in their back... towards the end I had a lot of sudden episodes of lower abdomen bloating and jsut feeling awful. After it was removed I was fine. Aske for an ultra sound and they can see if you have gall stones...I think it would be the first avenue I would check and or rule out.Julie
