Back of upper lip swelling

Hi there!

A few months ago, my boyfriend used a special order lip balm on his upper lips that he sampled from a family member. As of late, he has been complaining of a tight skin feeling when he smiles and that the skin behind his upper lip is more noticeable when he smiles (kind of 'droopy').

Most doctors cannot find a diagnosis and next week, he is going in for cosmetic surgery to remove the excess skin apparently caused by this chapstick.

Is there any alternative? Has anyone else had these problems? Please help... I don't want him to make a decision he will regret!
