I am a 58 year old female and have had pains in my arms back legs and neck for about 4 months, also my legs feel very weak and I am constantly tired. About two months ago the doctor put me on steroid tablets which do relieve the pain and he has also injected steroids into my back. I have stopped with the steroids as I feel they are just masking the problem. We now also found the I am B12 deficient with a very low count and I am now having B12 injections, to date I have had 3 over the past three weeks but I do not feel any different and still have the pains etc. Do you think that these B12 injections will work and the pains will go or do you think there is another problem that should be investigated?

When I read this, I thought about mystery diagnosis. There was a woman who had suffered for 10 years before they diagnosed her with a B12 difficency. She had to have shots of B12, because the tablets weren't enought. Have you checked on getting the shots instead of the tablets? Also, I think Dr's make the mistake of summarizing all symptoms to one problem. The prob. is w/medicine, everything is based on theory, and that's why you have to keep trying various things until you get it right. Sometimes, they don't know, and can only treat the symptoms if there is no test. Have you been tested for fibromialgya (sp)? Or had an MRI to make sure there is not something neurological causing the pain? Any problems checked for with circulation? I'd have them do a complete workup if you think the problem isn't solved. There could be something else they're not recognizing by linking all of the symptoms to one problem, and I'd also ask them to give the B12 shots which are stronger, do whatver limited exercise you can, take good vitamins and have a healthy diet. That always helps too, but have them do a workup, and if they're not willing to do that per ins. costs and they feel it's not necessary since they're treating you for a B12 def., then keep going to different doctors until you have one that listens!
