Ok so I got an FDG brain Pet scan a couple days ago and no one told me any of the details of what this actually does! I have severe cognitive impairment with memory and thinking and my doctor was concerned about blood flow patterns and early dementia (i'm 18) So I take two antidepressants and klonopin (also a beta blocker) but they didn't seem to care and didn't even ask what the names were. So they faxed a paper with the "results" which in two sentences says the Fdg uptake is ok and the colors look symmetrical or w/e....Well i know i have severe cognitive impairment so does this just mean it is not a metabolic problem? What does that even leave left? Does this test show my brains metabolism and blood flow from over a long period of time or just at that minute? Because the day i got it i id not sleep that night, i didn't take my morning meds, and i was nervous as ***l and straining to keep my arms from falling off the table the whole time(really thin table) Could those have effected the results? Please someone help me and tell me that I didn't pay so much just to see if my "colors" were aligned! They are sending me a disc.

  • No those things shouldnt have affected your results. Im glad to hear that you are getting a disc with the results on it. That could come in handy in future if another specialist views but im sure if anything major was there they would of seen it, so the test isnt really a waste of time as you now know there is nothing abnormal there to be easily noticed. (second opinions are sometimes good). Many different issues can cause memory issues that may not show up in such a test eg maybe your drugs are giving you memory side affects? Maybe your diet is affecting it in some way eg B deficiencies can cause memory issues, food intollerances may cause memory issues. Memory issue and mind fog issues could be thousands of different things, some minor things but which can have a big impact memory wise. What's your B12 level? Also be aware that depression itself can give one memory issues and make thinking harder. Your memory issues could just be another symptom of your depression or mental health issue.
