Hi there,

I have visited this site several times over the last few months hoping to find some answers... but no luck yet!

I was diagnosed with Costochondritus last month, but I think what I have is more then that. The doctors are still doing tests, but I need to try and put my mind at rest.

I have had the odd twinge every now and then since March last year, but since the end of March this year the pain has been unbearable and almost debilitating.

My sympyons are:

Chest pains... which started at my sternum, but now affects my entire ribcage. The pain can be both constant and intermitant in different parts of my ribs, all the way round to my spine.

Pain and tenderness in my collorbone, shoulders, elbows, jaw and left hip.

Like with my chest, the pain can be both constant at times or intermitant, and the pain tends to move around a lot.

Any suggestions would be helpfull!

Thank you

Sarah

  • Some of the pain you are describing sounds much like Fibromyalgia. My Mom has this which causes much pain in her rib cage, other joints and in the shoulder area. She has had some severe rib pain. They all chalk it up to the fibromyalgia diagnosis. I am not too sure about it.I hope you get answers and try a neurologist and see if the fibro symptoms sound familiar. They can test you and treat with meds for this.Muck luck!

  • I googled costochondritus and found http://abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/48329/ - worth reading to see how the doctors have been doing. I therefore believe that most of what I recommended at http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showpost.php?p=45222&postcount=5 will help you, above all the parts about taking more water and salt, and reducing uric acid. Only skip the paragraphs about hypoglycemia and fasting, thx.

  • Hey-I had that- so did my sister. We were told that it had to do with physical activity- even just plainly pushing furniture. My experience tell me that it has to do with internal attitudes.I got it right after I got married into a very controlling family- it's like I had an "Emotion Police" 24/7 not allowing me to ever be upset about anything. Many more symptoms unraveled later such as hives, hay fever, acid reflux, a weird leg pain on my right leg and then lots of foot pain and migranes. This diagnosis is very common on women and some homosexuals also suffer from it. Hmmm.So much food for thought.

  • Hi,I was diagnosed with this costochondritis a few years back. It was so intense that I couldnt work for 4 months. I finally went to physiotherapy which helped a lot and was able to return to work but the pain is still there and it seems to be getting worse again. At my worst the pain spread to different areas of my chest and around to my spine but i didnt have troubles with my elbows or anything. My Dr. thought it was due to a virus but could never explain why or what the virus was. When this all started i also suffered from pancreatitis, gasteroenteritis and since then I would get random bouts of extreme pain above my belly button but the Drs cant tell me why. I think this is all conected somehow but i Dont have any answers yet. Have you experienced any of these other symptoms? Maybe we can figure this out!I'd suggest physio though...it helped a lot. They'll use some ultrasonic machines on the areas of tenderness. It seems to speed up the healing process. -N

  • Hi there.I was diagnosed with the same pain below my heart and in the rib cage. Some times the pain jolts me awake like a lightning bolt.I always feel some discomfort. Can't sleep on my left side for a year.Ibupropen helps but I don't like taking it constantly.I had chest x rays and cat scan and it just showed the swelling, nothing more serious, thank God.Any news from your doctors?
