I am a 20yr old female. For the past 18mnths I have been suffering with extreme fatigue and pain mostly in my arms and legs. The pain is an achy/burning pain but regular painkillers don't have much affect. I have also been having tingling sensations all over.
I frequently wake up with a sore throat, earache and a stuffy nose. I've been getting really bad headaches on and off and generally feel unwell. I also have painful glands in my neck. I went to my GP as I thought it was chronic fatigue syndrome but she put it down to depression. I told her I wasn't depressed but she took no notice.
About three weeks ago i started having severe muscle spasms. I was taken to hospital three times in one week. The last time I went the paramedics had to restrain me becasue the spasms were so severe - not a pleasant experience. Even so nothing was done and once again it was put down to depression.
About a week after it started I began having trouble walking. At first my right leg kept giving way and I fell down several times but now my legs are so stiff when I walk that the heels of my feet down touch the floor, its starting to get quite painful.
I went to my GP again because of the walking difficulty and still she's saying its depression and I couldn't be bothered to argue. To be honest I don't think she has a clue, she actually said she' d never seen anything like it.
I was taking an SSRI (antidepressant) for ~2mnths but stopped taking it three weeks ago because one of the side affects is abnormal muscle movements and convulsions. It's unlikely this is the cause though as I was taking it for so long before this happened and it's still happening more than two weeks later. I did not want to take them in the first place as I did not think it was necessary but certain people insisted.
I cannot believe this is due to depression, primarily because I'm not depressed but I have never heard of depression causing such severe and specific symptoms. Now The GP and the therapist I have been seeing for over 2 years are talking about more medication that I don't need. I keep telling them I do not feel depressed but they wont listen and no one is doing anything. I haven't had any tests done. I had blood taken and a urine sample at the hospital but that was it.
I am getting really fustrated, I cannot walk from one room to another without difficulty and it seems that because i had an episode of depression in the past the health professionals I have seen cannot see past it.
Anyway the reason I am posting on here is because i would like to know of any one who has had similar symptoms of or any suggestions for what it could possibly be.
p.s. I apologise for the ridiculous length of this post.
