Hii!
Im 15 and have been having problems with my lower back/hip lately, i do many sports from gymnastics and cheerleading to hockey and badminton. I have many symtoms, some of which may not even be realated to what is wrong, but thought id post them anyway just in case.

pain in the lower back, hip and top of thigh. comes and go's, but hurts mostly when putting weight onto it, walking or sitting down!
muscle spasms occuring more often in kneck and in hand.
cramp frequently from doing the slightest things, like fixing my shoe. usualy occurs in the calf, feet or hand.
muscle twitches occuring more frequently, mainly in the thumb, upper arm, and around the knee area.
muscle tremors, my leg will just jump for no reason at all, but not that frequently.

Any ideas to what this could all be related to?
bearing in mind in sports like cheerleading i have to take lots of weight, which causes more pain, could this be the cause?

Jodie! x

  • Have you been to a doctor? If not, sounds like you need to see a spinal orthopedist and rule out any problems there.

Cheerleading is much more strenuous on a girls muscles than most people realize. It's one of the most common causes of Middle/High School girl injuries. From what you describe, you have multiple areas of concern...not acute enough to ground you yet...but pretty concerning, nevertheless. Are you in a position to take a bit of a break from muscle exertion? It would be a VERY good thing to do now. These are the ONLY muscles you're going to get...best to take GOOD care of them!If you just can't take a break right now, PLEASE develop a good stretching routine that you'll carry out faithfully BEFORE you do your thing. The muscles you should be concentrating on are your leg muscles... glutes, quads, hamstrings, gastrocs; lower back muscles...particularly your latissimus dorsi; upper back/neck muscles...trapezius and rhomboids; and chest muscles...primarily pectorals. And after cheerleading, hockey, badminton, etc. you should get those muscles into either a hot tub or a hot tub soak to promote muscle relaxation. If you have any questions drop me an email at: jonmac391v@comcast.net. I'm sure that I've got some more exercise/stretching info that I can dig up for you.Be well!!John
