For the last year and half I have been bounced between Psychiatrists, psychologists, and GI docors and I am confused. About a year and half ago I took 28 days of Cipro for a urinary problem (frequent nightime urination) even though no culture ever showed a bacterial infection. That problem no longer exists. Then I developed daily constipation, and the abdominal pains then nausea. Told my flora may have been effected so I took probiotics. I had the entire work up from colonoscopy to endoscopy to abdominal CAT scan all normal. Since I had anxiety in my past I was directed to get therapy etc. Nothiong helps although a little ativan keeps some of the conditions under control and there have been nights when in a relax enviroment I have actually felt normal. But those times are beginning to be few and far between. Only sleep helps as conditions are present only after I awake. Now I just took A HBT and was told I have Lactose intolerance. I am 58 white male who never has had any reaction to milk, ice crean or dairy products. I think I have SIBO from the CIPRO but the GI people discount this and won't even test. So is it physical, psychological or a combo of both.

  • just a guess....if you haven't already done so, why not stay away, completely away (this is hard I know as I did it) from dairy for a whole month and see if your system may calm down? People can and do develop all kinds of things as we age that we did not have trouble with before....fun, eh? Try a diet clean up and see how that goes first....and really do it...yes it is HARD, but give a good try.... Also, the fact that a calm environment does help is telling, don't you think? Perhaps try some antidepresents that you have not tried...there are soooooo many out there and some work for some and not for others....my Mother in law had to try a few different ones until she hit on one that worked best for her. do you have a lot of stress in your life right now? My husband is 56...it is mid to late career....and a lot of things can go on in your mind....Joan

They need to specifically test for the amount of candida in your stool. Clostridium difficile is a bacterial infection directly caused by antibiotic use that can cause horrible IBS symptoms. I would get these tests to rule them out. Candida overload can cause mood swings, IBS symptoms, food and chemical intolerances, chronic sinus problems, and much more. Most docs don't deal with candida effectively IME. Consider finding a good acupuncturist, naturopath, NAET practitioner or other holistic practitioner to help get you back in balance. There are very good candida cleanses you can do - but this takes sometimes several months to get under control. Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine treat the whole body, mind and spirit. we don't separate illness into compartments like allopathic medicine. I think it is more effective with issues like anxiety and depression - which are psychological symptoms of a PHYSICAL imbalance in the body. In our family every single one of us expresses it differently. My cousin had urinary incontinance, I had constipation, my brother had tonsilits, and my Mom had bronchitis. As a kid people thought I had IBS, but once I completely elimiated dairy from my diet, all that went away!Good luck, this may be the solution to ALL of your health troubles.
