Had oral sex with a dancer 3 months ago. Became scared and took every antibiotic I could find. Doxy 2x daily, biaxin, cipro, augmentitin. Have developed a case of oral thrush, tongue, throat, mouth last two weeks and experiecning fatigue. My partner developed a vaginal yeast infection also after we had sex prior to me noticing the thrush. Is the anti biotics causing the thrush or is this initial signs of HIV?

  • Dear sleepless,The most important thing to do when worried about STD's is to see your doctor, not self-medicate. While thrush is a symptom of HIV, it only occurs when the persons immune system has been severely damaged, thus, it would not occur a month after exposure to the virus. Most likely, the antibiotics caused the thrush. Next time, do not risk your life by mixing/taking "every antibiotic" you can find. Use of antibiotics can lead to liver damage or pseudomembranouscolitis-both life threatening. This risk increases substantially when you abuse antibiotics in the way you did.FYI, so you know in the future, it is very unlikely that a person gets HIV from oral sex unless open lesions/cuts are present in the person's mouth. Having said that, for your peace of mind, get tested for HIV after 3 months and use condoms with your partner until you are cleared as negative. From,Sensible
