Anogenital Pruritis - why?!?!

So since December of 08 I've been having EXTREME anogenital itching. I've been tested for candidas, bacteria, std's (which, I don't know how that would be possible but they tested anyways), low iron, thyroid - several other tests that I'm not exactly sure what for - but they can't find ANYTHING. All cells are completely normal and there is nothing extra present. They are about ready to send me to chapel hill for a biopsy. I'm driven crazy. It keeps me up, it has me in tears, and nothing helps. I can't put any ointment on it because it makes it worse - even stuff that should make it better.
The only thing that ever helped was Prednisone. I've had 2 rounds. But I can't continue to take it, obviously. I've tried everything imaginable - changing diet (no sugar, no caffeine, more iron, gluten free, less carbs, more fruit/veg - you name it!), sitz baths, all kinds of creams, stopped using soap to wash there, stopped using dryer sheets, used "free" detergent, powdered w/ cornstarch, taken allergy medications...

Please help!!!
