About 12 years ago I took a nasty fall and I think I possibly broke my ankle, I never had it checked, but now it has pretty much nothing to it. It collapses without warning if I step wrong, it is constantly sore and swollen. I can leave my foot flat and lay my leg right down flat on the floor as well. Is there anything a dr would be able to do to at least relieve some of the swelling and pain?

If I was you I'd go to the doc. and have them pop it back in. they will probbaly also give you exccesises to re-stregnthen your muscles so you will be able to hold the joint in place your self. But until then they might have to do something to help you keep it in place. But I would def. go to a doc. because I am positive they can do more than just relieve the swelling.
