I have a severely sore and swollen ankle right now, it's been bothering me for about 3 weeks. It started out achy (I noticed this the first time while I was walking up the stairs at work, like my ankle bones ached a bit when I was going up the stairs) and then started getting more sore and then swollen. The weird thing is that I could swear that it began in both ankles, but I started second guessing myself after it was just my left ankle for a while.
I went to my doctor and she sent me for a bunch of bloodwork (thyroid, diabetes, heart, cholesterol, gout, blood clot, etc.) and it all came back fine except the c reactive protein, which was elevated to 9.1. From what I can see about this online, it just means I have inflammation (duh! :)) So I went back to her a week later because I was still having a lot of pain and swelling. This time she sent me for an x-ray and another blood test for rheumatoid arthritis. She doubts it's that though because it's only in one ankle and not in other joints.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? It's not getting any better and I'm starting to get really worried. (By the way I'm a 33 year old, otherwise fairly healthy, female).
