I twisted my ankle about 5 years ago. It swoll up pretty bad. I rested until I could walk on it again, but the pain never really went away until about a year later. I probably just didn't give it enough rest.
Then my ankle starting swelling up for no reason at random times. Sometimes I would twist it a little and sometimes it would just swell. Then my other ankle starting doing the same thing. Then my knee. I would just wake up one day and couldn't walk.
My poditris told me it was an ankle ingury and just give it time. My first ortho told me it was just MCL sprian. I've had MRIs on both my ankles and knee and nothing really jumped out at the doctors. another doctor told me it was cellituis, and when I went to a 2nd ortho he checked me for rhumothiod arthis and the blood work said it was not that.
I would say I am on crutches about 40% of the time for the past 5 years. normally about 2 months on, 2 months off.
