Hey guys...new to the site. Like it. Anyways, I'm 20 years old, and an awesome young woman:p ...have great friends, a phenominal family, great job, always out partying, having fun...but I am ALWAYS angry. The stupidest things get me mad. Tonight, the littlest things were setting me off. I didn't speak to anyone-everyone noticed something was wrong, but I can't put my finger on it! I used to think I had anger management problems. when I was younger..I'd throw things, swear like you've never heard before, never sleep...but I saw someone a few years ago and everything seemed to be fine. Now I just scream at my best friends, have no patience for my mother-I answer my phone to people saying "what do you want?" instead of my usual "Hey!". I'm just miserable with anger. I know this is just kind of a vague and random summary, but does anyone have any idea what the ***l could be going on?

  • Hi Avallon,Honestly, it could be a variety of things. The first thing that came to my mind was bipolar. But that is such a random guess, because that kind of diagnosis takes much more knowledge of you than what can be given here, in a paragraph. But it is the case that if you want to not feel that way, there are various treatments to help. If you are thinking of what you could do for yourself, you could look into meditation (don't laugh, it really helps!) and you could use something like this CD to start with: http://www.healthjourneys.com/Product_Detail.aspx?catid=-1&id=96If you have good health insurance, and you are interested in finding if there is a medicine that could help (if it is bipolar, there are some excellent meds) then go to a psychiatrist. That isn't for "counseling" but for diagnosis and prescriptions. Finally, you might find some interesting insight from the book "The Dance of Anger" by Harriet Lerner. http://www.amazon.com/Dance-Anger-Changing-Patterns-Relationships/dp/006091565XFeeling angry all the time is not fun. But it is also harsh on your immune system, and has been shown to shorten a person's life span, and increase a person's susceptibility to disease, cancer, infection, allergies, etc. I hope something I've written here turns out to be helpful.Best,Shula

  • Shula, thank you for replying.I have juvenile diabetes, so a lot of people have told me that it could be because of high blood sugars, and I must admit, when my sugars get high I do get irritable, but recently I've been stable and still mad. I'll look into everything you've said. Thanks again!

  • In Chinese medicine, anger is the emotion of the liver. Do you also get headaches or PMS symptoms or a flushed face? Since you have juvenile Diabetes, you also have a Spleen/Liver disharmony. Sugar and refined carbohydrates definitely makes things worse, as it causes further imbalance and a weakened Spleen. This is just a different perspective, and you may or may not be interested in it. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine can really help with emotional issues. Bach Flower remedies are also good. Please try many different avenues before commiting yourself to a psychiatrist's road of antidepressant meds...there are alternatives that can be just as helpful. Best wishesDOM
