anal bleeding and mucus

I have noticed when i go to the toliet for a wee, that my anus is bleeding. It is bright red which i know indicates piles, but i don't have any discomfort passing stools, or any pain/itching in general.

i don't even have to have just passed a stool for there to be blood there. it started again today and because of the amount of blood and colour i actually presumed i had just come on my period, until i wiped my vagina and realised this isn't the case.

this has happened a couple of times now, and inbetween i noticed a large amount of mucus after passing stool and wiping.

i know it is probably nothing to worry about and it is perhaps just piles, i was just wondering how the mucus came into it and if it points to any other diagnosis? (i am 24 and female).

i have also had intermittant pains in my right side where i would imagine my intesting/appendix to be. it is a certain isolated area and is very tender to touch. i have had this for about a year, and it only flares up every now and again. just thought i'd mention this incase it could be related?

thanks in advance for any info or suggestions

  • Red blood can indicate other things then piles. I could also mean that the bleeding is coming from a lower part of your colon or your anus. You could be looking at something like ulcerative colitis - pain in the right side and the mucuos is a symptom of such. Are your stools well formed? Do you go more then once a day?I would ask for a colonscopy. Good luck!
