:)I'm new to this site, and the readers have been extremely helpful and I immensely appreciate it.
Since I received great opinions already for my other small health issue, I have another one to ask about. Its a bit embarrassing but Im absolutely sure that somebody out there has had this problem before...
A few years ago while working at my steel mill factory job, I began to have anal itching...mostly when I was walking around. Now, I know that everybody gets this once in a while because of improper cleaning and whatnot, but after this anal itching began in my life, its been extremely annoying. A lot of cleaning really didnt help me much. It was getting to a point that when I noticed the itching coming on, that I would frantically seek a hiding spot where I could "violently" scratch myself to relieve the itching. Occasionally, I did have a chance to speak to a few close friends about what it could be, and I was told something about worms! Well, I readily made an appointment with my doctor and thank goodness, the worms thing was ruled out! I was told by a doctor that it could be a reaction from a type of toilet paper but this was never confirmed. A while later, I had a colonoscopy at my request and I was found to have a polyp which was apparently removed by the surgeon. I still have the itching now, and the only real good remedy now is when I use these medicated pads called "Tucks".
A number of years ago, I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia and I have had bouts of sudden acid reflux where it would feel like a heart attack and "if" I didnt have any antacids with me, it would feel that death was imminent. Does anybody know out there whether Is it possible that there might be some connection between this anal itching, my hiatus hernia, and gerd?
Thanks for reading and thanks for the assistance...

  • I am thinking that while working at the mill, that you were exposed to some toxin that is in your system. Think back to what chemicals/substances you were being exposed to.Worms/parasites can do it, too, and not sure what they check for but there are probably dozens that they don't check for.A yeast infection could cause it, so something like www.candidol.com might help.Did you get this after sex? Does it come and go? If so, a blood test for herpes 2 might be in order.

  • Thanks so much for the assistance Blaze and Monsterlove. I have not tried probiotics. I dont even know what they are. This itching could be a result of allergy but I havent got a clue as to what it might be. As far as herpes is concerned...I have never been checked for that and it doesnt seem that my symptoms are in line with the classical symptoms of herpes; I have no bumps or any type of sores or anything around my genital area. The only concrete problem I have is the anal itching. It gets occasionally severe and I also feel burning like from a (salt on flesh wound). Do you gentlemen have any more ideas for me? I have an appointment with my nurse practitioner within 2 weeks but she wont do any tests on me unless "I ask her to do so". Therefore, the more info you gents can feed me will definitely help. Thankyou very much!

  • Do you use unscented toilet paper? Maybe some of the chemicals in the scented ones are causeing this? How abt laundry detergents , fabric softener in the washer or dryer sheets? A friend's hubby had the itch and she was putting softener in the rinse cycle and using dryer sheets. I suggested she stop using both and the itching stopped.Do you use a bath soap with a deoderant or strong scent in it? Maybe try using something like Ivory, without perfumes or dyes. Hope this helps.~~JerseyLymie

  • Did anyone mention hemorrhoids? I suppose that the doc who found polyps would also find hemorrhoids.

  • Anal itching is also called Pruritus Ani. It is a symptom, not a disease and it can have many possible causes such as reactions to certain foods or chemical irritants, fungus like someone already mentioned, improper or vigourius viping, etcHere is good info from medicinet on the possible causes as well as the treatment. http://www.medicinenet.com/anal_itching/article.htm

  • Other than parasites, I still suggest the herpes 2 blood test; you don't need to have any symptoms to have it and although it's not the blistery obvious rash, it still has a possibility until you get the blood test for the specific herpes 2 test. It could also be an allergy to something you eat on a regular basis, too, so you could get allergy testing and rule out wheat/eggs/nuts, etc.

  • I had severe anal itching for over 7 years. Tried everything on the market and had 2 surgeries... nothing worked. Then 3 months ago I tried a product called PRANICURE...it changed my life. Within a few days I could go 24 hours without the urge to scratch. Within a week my bottom was completely healed. I simply apply Pranicure after every bowel movement and I have no more anal itching. 7 years was a long time to deal with severe anal itching (pruritus ani is what doctors call it.) I'm so happy to be done with it. Really...if any of you have anal itching don't waste your time with anything else. Just put Pranicure in your search engine to find out how you can order it. Hope this helps a lot of you not go through what I did.
