Should I be scared of XRays? I keep reading there is a slight increase in risk of cancer with XRays and now my doc ordered more XRays!

In the lasy year, i have had the following:
Two dental XRays
Sacrum XRay
Foot XRay
Full body survey
CT of the head

And now my Rhumatologist ordered the following:
XRay of the mid back
Barium swallow scan

Should I be worried? Is the risk that low?

Rich

  • I just get worried. I eat so well and exercise and take supplements I would think those things help to counter my risks since many people go through life without a worry, smoking and everything.

  • Many people have more than that xrays done... Yes it is good to keep track of the amount of xrays done to you...but it should be ok. I just get worried. • Radiation is all around us and you should limit your exposure to it. Radon from basements, trips on planes, sitting too close to old tv's etc. Medical procedure radiation is usually only directed toward the area in question, and the benefits generally outweigh the risks. Dental and foot xrays are teensie doses. Full body surveys and CT's anywhere should be limited. Fluoroscopic procedures such as a barium swallow use the most ionizing radiation but are extremely important diagnostic tools. Why did you have the full body survey?

  • I have MGUS and had the full body surcey to check for cancer by examining my bones via the Xrays. I was clean but I worry about the XRay. I have a Barium Swallow in April because I had been having swallowing issues. I wondr if the swallowing was anxiety because I have not been having the problem. Maybe I should cancel.

  • Yes, you are correct, but Dr. Hazel Parcels had the antidote. You just need to be sure you do it for at least two days.x-ray bath:Sea Salt--2 poundsBaking soda--2 poundsSoak in very hot water until it coolsdrink 1/4 teaspoon of salt & 1/4 teaspoon of soda in a glass of water several times throughout the day. I usually use more salt/soda when I bathe. It is also good for pollution and when you get nagging coughs from the radiation that floats in the atmosphere.
