I have had an abscess on my breast for the last week. It is getting bigger, my breast has gone all red and the skin on it has thickened. The Dr wanted to stick a needle in it to drain the pus out but I would not let him. Is there any way this can be done without pain? When I had my wisdom teeth out I was given Madazalam to knock me out. Could they not do this to drain the abscess? If I cant have sedation I am not going to let anyone touch it.

  • Your abscess will feel much better if you let the dr drain it. Leave it untreated as it is now and you could easily have bigger problems then the abscess/infection you seem to have have now. The pain is not as bad as you imagine it will be. But tell the DR of your concerns re. possible pain from having the pus collected. Maybe the dr could come up with a way to allay your fears and get you through the procedure.Perhaps ask if the dr can give you some of that laughing gas they use at dental offices. That might calm you down. Or some other sedative/pain killer.I am so sensitive to that nitrous stuff that I get anesthetized very quickly and have to be watched carefully. Its jsut not wise to sit around with infections like breast abscesses; you could end up having a huge problem if the infection spreads and necrotizes. If that happens you could have real bad pain, disfigurement and scarring. Even septicemia and necrotizing tissue problems can arise. The redness means the tissue is badly inflammed at least from whatever is going on; so please do take care of it. Plus the dr should also make sure you don't have inflammatory breast cancer.
