Hi I am 26, I am a Diabetic with HBMc of 8 which is quite good but it has been better.

For about 2 years I have had abdominal discomfort, bloating in the morning before food and drink. I feel tense in the stomach area and feel I cannot relax it. I recently felt a long hard tube running from above my left pubic area up toward my ribs. I feel it best when I am laying down and it is under the muscle tissue and fat layer.

I am concerned this may be an hernia, but there is no pain when I move the object. The discomfort worsens rapidly throughout the day and, well, its ruining my ability to relax and stay focused!

Should this tube be there?

  • Important pieces of information in order to answer your question include: the duration of diabetes, the level of glycemic control, and the presence or absence of any complications. Starting with your current, and presumably most important, problem: The "long hard tube" that you describe as running from your "left pubic area up toward my ribs" is likely to be from impacted feces in your descending and sigmoid colon indicating severe constipation (hernia is unlikely from your description). Constipation is very common in diabetes. You may want to see your physician, who may recommend dietary changes and medical management. Your more chronic symptoms (abdominal discomfort, bloating, and tenseness) may be nonspecific dyspepsia (also common in diabetes) or may represent something more serious such as diabetic autonomic neuropathy affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Clinical consideration would depend on the duration of diabetes and the presence or absence of other complications. This would also need to be evaluated by the physician if deemed necessary. Notably, while diabetic gastropathy may result from poorly controlled diabetes, and reverse effect in which diabetic gastropathy results in difficult to control blood sugar levels may also occur.

You should look into a CT scan...I had Appendicitis for a loonngg time that was finally diagnosed over a period of time (5 weeks) and it was thru a CT scan that it was diagnosed. (it is possible to go that long and longer (i've heard of 2 years) with appendicitis and it not burst or be diagnosed) an X-ray would be good too and if nothing on either of thoes see a sports Dr. about whats called a "Sports Hernia" I had surgery for one about 5 months ago and i was un-diagnosed for 10 months.hope u find something soon! i know alllll about abdominal pain!
