Five months ago my friend had to go to the hospital because she was not feeling good and until now Croatian doctors have not been able to make a diagnosis of her illness. During this five months she is staying in the hospital every second, she has not been able to eat anything because of vomiting everything she puts into her mouth, she can not walk, she does not see and she can barely speak.
My friend is a 36 year old women, with a family and a ten year old daughter. We are talking about a young healthy women whose life suddenly fell apart.
It all started with her being a little disoriented. Then, after a while, the vomiting started and she went to the hospital, it has not ended ever since. As time passed by, doctors sent her to all the tests we have at our disposal in our small not enough developed country. Her state is becoming worse every day. She can not walk or stand. Doctors sent her to same treatment to try to get her back on her feet, but it was temporary. She can not see mostly anything, and talking presents a challenge for her.
Doctors also sent her to a PET scan which showed an ovary tumor. They took the ovary out, and it was healthy, there was no tumor. They also found some antibodies of lungs cancer, but her lungs are ok, there is also no cancer. It must be a brain problem, there is nothing else that makes sense. Every day in the life of this woman is ****.

After a lot of Googling, I saw the symptoms of Huntington's disease which seemed very similar to me, but I am not an expert. Do you think it could be that? And how can I get her doctors to the right path since they do not have a clue what could be the problem.

I would appreciate your help very much.

  • Huntington's is probably unlikely as it usually takes years for symptoms to progress. It sounds more like it could have been a stroke/multiple strokes, or multiple sclerosis. Look at symptoms of those and see if you friend has been tested for these (especially MS as it can progress with a large variety of symptoms and progression rate which can be very different from one person to another).Hope your friend gets better.
