  • probably so; why don't you get her allergy tested?

  • you can also change her diet and see if that helps...eliminate all dairy first, cheese, yogurt, milk, etc. Try it for a week and then the next week do dairy and sugar. It's so hard to digest dairy and she could also have a chronic sinus condition dripping into her stomach.

  • ask your girl if she actually feels like coughing out. is the throat-clearing or coughing productive? ask her if she can control the problem. if not then could it be some kind of neurological problem e.g. tic disorder?

  • I agree with the others, it could very well be an allergy. even if she wasn't allergic before she could have easily developed an allergy over time. I'd try cutting back on the dairy, that increases the flem, etc in the throat. Or it could be asthma. It's important to take her to a doctor to be sure. Here's a couple useful posts I found elsewhere that might help you:http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Respiratory-Disorders/Throat-Clearing/show/283361http://www.lakesidepress.com/pulmonary/Cough/throatclearing.htmGood luck, and good health.

Sometimes throat-clearing and coughing are a tic. Also in conditions like ADD/ADHD or Asperger's, children will develop these symptoms as well, and conditions such as asthma and allergies of course have to be ruled out. I hope this was helpful! Good luck! Cindy, RMA, Boise Idaho

  • My 11 year old daughter also cleared her throat alot. After numerous visits to a ENT doctor (ear nose throat) my daughter was tested for and found to have GERD. The acid reflux from her stomach caused the constant need for her to feel like she needed to clear her throat. She was placed on Prilosec taken 1 time daily in the morning and after 10 days she stopped clearing her throat. She also had a occassional dry cough that stopped once she started on the medication.

  • Does she happen to use a cell phone or cordless phone? Researchers are finding that this electromagnetic/microwave radiation does indeed have (nonthermal) biological effects. In fact, brain tumors have been linked to these devices - just recently there was a Senate hearing about it. Salivary gland tumors, also. I read one story awhile back about a guy who couldn't stop burping, and it was a brain tumor.

  • Okay, I see no evidence of it being mentioned but if you have not yet had your daughter evaluated by your primary care physician or pediatrician, then you need to do so promptly. The internet is the absolute worst place to go in search of a diagnosis for healthcare problems, most especially where your child is concerned. Most people who visit these forums have already been evaluated by their doctor and have post-diagnostic concerns or questions. Again, proceed to your doctor or nearest available clinic for primary evaluation of your daughter's symptoms. Best regards, J Cottle, MD

  • My daughter is 7 years old. She has done this for more years than i can remember. Two years ago she was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD. While the clearing of the throat may be related to this disorder, it could also be caused by Asthma.Good luch
