I am very concerned. My 26yo/w son began with a corneal abrasion from a child's fingernail on 7/14/08. That healed and within a week the injury eroded. that healed. But since it has recurred 7 times, today being the worst occurrence. His opth. put a band aid contact lens in today, started him on doxycycline po bid, vigamox i gtt tid, lacrilube qhs, artificial tears qid & prn, and is to see him back in 2 days. My concern is the persistent reoccurance of the erosion with symptoms worsening each time. The opth. has had him on vit.c , lysine, and fish oil, lacrilube qhs as a standard care. My question is could there be an underlying infection or systemic disease that is causing this to reoccur? What are the systemic problems that could cause something like this and does Map-Dot-Fingerprint Dystrophy always occur in both eyes.

  • I have been dealing with recurring corneal erosions since 2007. I have the condition in both eyes. It was worse in my right eye. The procedure to treat this disease is very painful but well worth it. I had it done in my right eye and will do my left in a few months. I have gone a full year now with no issue in my right eye. It involves taking off all of the current cornea so healthy tissue replaces it. Best of luckI am very concerned. My 26yo/w son began with a corneal abrasion from a child's fingernail on 7/14/08.
