I am 17 years old. For the past year an a half ive been experiencing frequent diarrhea, 3 times minimum per day, horrible stomach pains, cold sweats at night, hot flashes, body forgetting to breathe sometimes at night.
I still have not come to figure out what is wrong with me. I have had x-rays, sonograms, blood work and stool cultures done. and they said everything is normal. but i know it is not.
I am rapidly beginning to lose weight no matter how much i eat.
The past week i had a CAT scan done, and i found out 2 things, both of which the gastroenterologist and radiologist said had nothing to do what is wrong with me. 1. my uterus is not where it is supposed to be. 2. only one of my kidneys is functioning, my other kidney is just a mass. i was born 3 months premature so that must be why, it didnt develop.

i really need help.
if anyone can give me some sort of information contact me through this message board or email me at silvercat414@gmail.com

I thank you so much!

  • First, you have several conditions that you describe:1) sleep apnea--not good, you need to see a sleep disorder specialist or perhaps an ENT man2) internal physical deformaties which may be causing your condition. You should have a urologist determine what is going on with your kidney. You may need follow up care.3) could be milk or other food allergy causing the diarrhea; parasites or tapeworms, too...4)hormonal Perhaps it is all related to your thyroid..I would investigate the glands next with an Endocrinologist.Looks like I've sent you to 3 specialists. I'd throw in a 4th and send you to a proctologist for an Endoscopy.

  • Silvercat, You need to rule out all the possibilities. Any of these Doctors Gastro-Doctors? They are the only ones who really know how to diagnos and deal with anything dealing with the Bowels or Stomach... Or anywhere in your digestive tract. Anyone else will not be able to do what they can do in that regard. Also, I should add just a long shot. The information you wrote gives me an off feeling. All these strange symptoms, no real answers, if you have gone through all the Usual Doctors including the right tests. Possibly or maybe something dealing with Nervous System? Muscle Spasms? Are your muscles also tight, constricting??? Possibly that you suffer from a Neuro Muscle-Or Muscle Disease Period. That would explain some things. As muscles digest your food, they push the blood through your veins/arteries, they control your breathing. So you mess with that Nervous System or Muscular makeup of the body you can really get a lot of strange things. Ultimately, this could be a lot of things. I could write you a list of what I think. Keep looking and don't give up. Could even be psychological... stress may mimic a disease, it's so broad your symptoms you need to start from the ground up, and at the very least, find what treatments you can for each individual symptoms so they don't weaken you too much and so that you can live your life... BTW: I would add a Psychiatrist to your list, if you suffer from extreme depression/anxiety.

  • Check for parasites, Lyme and thyroid problems first.Beware that parasites are hard to detect -> look for diagnosis specialists in this area.At your age, stress may be a cause, so don't exclude the possibility - though I does not seem that is be the root of your problems.Best of luck!

  • Silver, this is definitely more complicated than anxiety then. The fact you say your Uterus isn't where it is supposed to be, is this something new? Also you said one Kidney isn't functioning? Very very peculiar. Being born premature that much is unusual... Some years ago they wouldn't have been able to save a baby born so premature. My only thoughts for you really as your symptoms are so very strange, is to see an awesome Doctor who is willing to research you a little better. Do you live in a Major city with a Major medical school? With a good Diagnostician? I would probably get away from the private practices and the little local Doctors that haven't dealt with the "extreme" and try them, but that isn't neccesarily going to help well in the beginning of all of this i was under large amounts of stress, dues to school, and the fact that i was so sick added even more stress but for about three months ive been on anxiety medication and it has helped alot with the stress, but i know something is really wrong with me, and i dont want to see a psychiatrist, i want something that will fix me, or at least somewhat treat me. thank you all for your help, and i would appreciate it if you have anymore comments

  • Liam,I live in a big city, not quite as large, as LA or NYC, and as far as i know we dont have any major diagnostic centers, we do have several hospitals though. i am currently seeing a gastroenterologist who is running as many tests as she can. she is really on top of things. although, if she cannot find anything out then i am going to a different city, a much larger city that has some special diagnostic center, although it is quite far so me and my mother are hoping that the gastro-doc will figure this out. the uterus thing, they said that it is fine where it is, and that it has nothing to do with what is wrong with me.as for the kidney, they say the same thing, but i doubt they are correct, kidneys do alot of things, but after the holidays are over i am going to see a urologist to see if i need it removed, or anything like that. thank you for your advice.it is greatly appreciated!

  • I will tell you what many people told me when we were first started searching for answers with my mothers disease. When you can't get answers quickly with your local doctors then head to a university hospital. They are teaching hosptials and are typically more aggressive in searching for answers.

  • Hello Silvercat-- I hope it helps you to know that I have many of your same problems too. :) No you aren't crazy, and though I'm glad your stress is being helped, I too doubt that what you're describing is about anxiety. The doctors are wrong-- your uterus and kidney may indirectly have everything to do with what's wrong with you. There are some "syndromes" (diseases or conditions) associated with having one kidney & a uterus in the wrong place. Are you considered "short?" The reason I ask is because one of the syndromes is Turner Syndrome. This happens when a woman is born missing the second X chromosome-- normally women have two XX chromosomes. Don't worry-- you can get along just fine without one, but it does make life interesting. Turner's is associated strongly with celiac disease (maybe the cause of your gastrointestinal problems), and controversially, I admit, with angioedema, which may be why you feel like you've "stopped breathing" in the night. Tell your folks that you need to be evaluated by a very good geneticist. You are in my thoughts & prayers.
