My son has severe gerd, moderate asthma and has had quite a few pnemonias. When he was 3 years old he had a nissen fundoplication done. After he had a lot of swelling so they put a feeding tube in and a few days later did a scope in which they preforated his stomach. He is now 6 and has begun vomiting again at least a couple time a week usually between two & four am. Now he refuses to eat. He is loosing weiht doesn't play & just is not the same kid. He says it hurts to eat. One GI dr told me it could be in hus head and thought we could use behavioral thereapy. We got a 2nd opinion and she thought it may be migraines the meds did not help. When he does vomit it seems like the food has not even been digested when its been at least 6 or 7 hours since he has eaten. Any ideas or advice you have I would greatly appreciate.

  • Sounds like a food intolerance or allergy to me. Try to get him to eat raw fruits and veggetables. Get him tested.

  • Thats really all he eats. Raw veggies he does not like them cookes and a lot of fresh fruit which he used to eat a bag of apples every three days now I am lucky if he eats an apple. I would have to say hes getting maybe1/4 of the calories he needs. We have an upcoming appt i'll ask that they test him to see if thats what it is. Thanks:)

  • Try to get a referral to Mayo Clinic in MN. They may be able to diagnose your son.

  • first of all let me thankyou for the suggestions. We were seen by his pediatrician this morning and they decided to run some labs and do a CT of his stomach & pelvis. The last one showed miled Lymphadenitis mesenteric so the want to recheck that. Also he has lost three pounds in a week so we have to go back on thursday & if he loses anymore they are going to admit hime to our local hospital. Which by the way I am not thrilled withy. We have been admitted there three times since october only to have them tell us they can'ttreat him its a chronic condition. Last time they told me it was a GI issue see his Gi docs who told me it was a surgical issue we saw the surgeons who then told us go back to Gi.

  • Have they ruled out celiac disease? Google for more info...this is very underdiagnosed and he is showing quite a few of the symptoms. Please look into this and ask for further testing. Best wishesDOM

Allergy testing is ridiculously inaccurate. There was just a recent article in the NYTimes on this very subject. What DOES he eat? How are his stools? How frequent is the vomiting? Has he had ultrasounds of his liver and gallbladder? Have GB issues been ruled out? DOM

Has he had ultrasounds of his liver and gallbladder? Have GB issues been ruled out? DOM Thats the problem he really is not eating. Mostly dry foods. He refuses to eat meat he says it hurts. He eats a lot of fresh fruit & veggies. string chees yogurt. Even the foods he used to love he is no longer eating. I was told give him butter on everything to add calories. I have even tried desserts and not even they work. His stools used to be normal & daily now he is constipated so the put him on miralax and its getting his stools back to normal. They have not checked his liver or GB just appendix and for reflux. we did have a ct done of his stomach a while ago.
