I'm a 40 year old Mom of two and I have never had a migraine in my life, just the occasional headache. May 28, 2007 I had a top back molar break in half right down to the nerve. A dentist put a filling on it. For the next 3 weeks that tooth throbbed and ached and the dentist kept taking x-rays telling me nothing was wrong with it. She sent me to an Endodontist and he said I'm just swollen from the dental work and put me on steroids for 3 weeks and gave me pain killers!!

June 25, 2007 I felt an ice picking in the center of the back of my head that went on and off for one day. Totally took me by surprise, I didn't know what it could be.

From June to August I would get tingling in my finger tips and feet, dizziness, blurred vision, the feeling of an egg being cracked on the top of my head and dripping down and tingling, my legs and feet swell up on and off, my scalp was tender to the touch, I could hardly wash my hair because every strand felt like pins and needles digging into my head, I also have this terrible metal taste in my mouth for the past few weeks, and during this whole time my tooth was still killing me!!!!!!

August 16, 2007, the ice pick headache came with a vengeance and I was driving home and had to pull over and got out of the car and my legs couldn't move. I dropped to the ground and couldn't figure out where I was and how I got there. I got my cell phone and called the last call on my phone, which was my husband, and crying and freaking out I told him what was going on and he took me to the ER. They took a CT scan without dye and told me I had a tension headache and gave me pain killers and muscle relaxers and sent me home.

August 18, 2007, same thing happened again while I was in the car. Tingling and the feeling of electric shocks going thru my head and ice picking at the back of my head, and my scalp hurt to touch it, numb legs and fingers, confusion, disoriented, I could think of words in my head, but I couldn't say them out of my mouth! My Dad was calling me on my cell phone and I was crying and trying to figure out where I was and what was happening. He told me to pull over and he came and got me and took me to ER. They took another CT scan with dye. This doctor diagnosed me with Occipital Nerve Neuralgia. Gave me painkillers and muscle relaxers and sent me home.

August 21, 2007 had MRI of head and cervical spine ordered by top Neurologist in our Metropolitan area. All results came back normal. The neurologist told me it was stress and told me to schedule a massage or something to de-stress. Gave me some muscle relaxers, pain killers and anxity medicine and sent me home.

It is now September 21, 2007 and it has been 33 straight days of having these terrible electric shocks, tingling, throbbing feelings in my head. I have been to numerous doctors and dentists and they all say, it's stress. And they send me away with more pain killers and muslce relaxers. I could open up my own pharmacy right now!! The pain was so bad, that I was taking 15 Ibuprofen a day. And finally one doctor begged me to stop. I did. But it still hurts! So, I'm now taking muscle relaxers.

Get to another dentist or endodontist asap. This is NOT stress! What a load of garbage. Get some more xrays done - something is not right here...have you had a full blood work up done? What meds are you taking other than the muscle relaxers? If you get more xrays done and they don't show anything unusual, then consider that you may be having a severe allergic reaction to the original dental work that was done. This is surely a longshot, but it is possible. There is a treatment called NAET - please look into this if you still have no answers from your new endodontist. Also consider trying acupuncture to help manage your pain - so much more effective than drugs IMO. All of your symptoms seem to stem from the original dental work - why did the dentist put in a filling if your tooth was broken in half? How did he physically do this?!? Did you get a crown or any root canal done? Hope you get some answers. Best wishesDOM

  • Sometimes pulp-damaged teeth cause pain in other parts of the head and neck, but other dental or medical problems may be responsible.See your endodontist for evaluation. If the problem is not related to the tooth, your endodontist will refer you to an appropriate dental specialist or a physician. Maybe you have pulp damage. Have you been to an endodontist?Chronic pain in head, neck, or ear

  • Thank you sooooo much for the replies. Your information is very appreciative. I definitely will check into those suggestions. :)I am getting the tooth pulled this Friday. And I hope that relieves some of the head pain. Here's all the medicines that the Doctors and Dentists have given me. 1. Flexiril (Muscle Relaxer)2. Hydrocodone (Pain Killer)3. Xanax (Anxiety Medicine)4. Neurontin (Nerve damage) 5. Soma (Pain killer)I am not taking all of these. I only occasionally take the Muscle Relaxer, because that's the only thing that has relieved some of the pain.

  • Mommycat: Did you have a bad dental treatment? Is that what caused your symptoms? Thank you also for your concern. :)

  • There is a newish kind of migraine called a tension migraine. If the flexaril worked, maybe this is what is causing SOME of your pain. Hope the extraction works.

For awhile I would still feel come discomfort there, but it wasn't bad. This spring I started to feel like I had an abscess above that tooth, and it got very bad. I wasn't scheduled to see my dentist for another month, but decided to talk with my NAET practititoner and colleaque about it. He tested me for tomatoes and sure enough I was very reactive. Looking back I realized that I had just gotten some fresh organic heirlooms and ate a whole bunch before my tooth symptoms started. Within 5 hours of getting treated for tomato, my symptoms improved 80%. After another day, my gums felt completely normal and I haven't had any episodes like this since. I know this sounds crazy, but it really helped me:) . Best wishesDOM

  • Dear acuann, I believe you!! When I went to Bioset, I realized that I had been having, in essence, allergic reactions to many things from foods I was eating and many other things. I also learned that all of my glands were not fuctioning normally and that my immune system was in dire straights.I Thank God everyday for this forum, for people like you who spend time here helping others and for Bioset. Without these tools, Lord knows where I'd be.Thank you for sharing your time, it is more valuable than most will ever know.:D I hope a lot of people start taking this advice, they will need it.My research is expanding and with this knowledge, comes a need for ways to combat what is going on in the world. NAET/Bioset, as far as I'm concerned is the most important. How's the training going? I wish I lived close, I'd come visit!!where are you anyway? I'm in NY. Keep pluggin' acuann...there are countless here who need your help.mommy cat:)
