On 11/13 I was diagnosed with an e-coli extremely resistent to most antibiotics. It took 6 days to get me on the right meds. Since that time I have had excrutiating back and pelvic pain 24/7. I have had Mri's, Cat-Scans and bloodwork with all results negative. I am now on oxycodene 10/325 to manage me through the pain. I have lost 28lbs and have started sweating profusely upon wakening, sometimes for three hours or more. The UTI has not left my body completely. I have had three urine cultures and although the counts are lower the E-Coli still exists. I have had vaginal infections as well. I have been out of work for three months with no relief. The only thing that happened prior to this infection was a small dog bite which drew blood on my left wrist. The Dr's all seem to think that it's not the cause. Anyone out there have any insight?

  • Did they test you via blood work for herpes 2? It can be hiding internally causing a big mess. Of couse, they've cultured your UTI for which med it will respond to, right???

  • No, I don't think so I'll ask when I go back. I told the Dr to check for everything.I think that was on the list...The cultures for the last three months all say macrobid should be doing the trick. I go back Saturday after 10 days on meds to see if it's gone completely. I feel like this e-coli infection has taken over my body in a sense. The pain and burning in my back and pelvic area 24/7 are barely tolerated with oxycodone 10/325. Other symptoms since this began.yeast infection, bacterial infection,.weight loss, sweats upon wakening, and blurred vision. If this infection went to my bone in either my back or pelvic area I will know once I get the 3 phase bone scan..Bloods have been normal so far.

  • Herpes can give you such horrible lower back pain that it can drive you crazy. It would not be a culture but a blood test for the herpes 2 specific test. It would also explain why the antibiotics are not working. You could have like a post-herpetic neuralgia--or many internal flare ups, along with constant bladder and internal blisters...it's worth investigating and then you know you are only dealing with the e-coli, which can be nasty on its own. You might want to check rare side effects from the meds you are taking to determine if that may be causing your vision trouble.
