Hi I'm new to the forum,
I've recently had a Epigastric hernia repair (just above the belly button),
I've rested the suggested 4 weeks, not lifted, not done anything silly.
all has gone well very little discomfort at all.
last week i started thinking about getting fit again, (I was in good health before the op).
this Monday I went on a 5km bike ride (probably too fast/aggressive), the next day I had a dull ache in my stomach, near/around/behind my op scar.
I thought nothing of it and carried a rucksack for a short walk (again to get fit).
since then the pain/ache hasn't gone away (a whole week now) paracetamol(asprin)/Ibuprofen dosn't do anything.
it feels a bit like indigestion but no problems with the bowel area and no nausea.
I asked a NHS Direct expert, they said I needed to see a Dr within 2 hours!...which is worrying!
(they didn't say why, but I guess they are covering their backs legally)
Anyway I managed to see a Dr and he diagnosed "acid reflux".
I took the prescribed Gaviscon,(anti-acid liquid) with very little result, if any.
there is no difference if I: sit-up/lay-down/stand/jump/ whatever, though I still feel I need to support the scar area (this may be partly psychological).
so I'm sitting here, still in pain wanting to go back to work, (which is a physical job) thinking:
1. have I pulled/torn a muscle?
2. Have I damaged my op site?
3. Is it something else?
4. or is it just a case of my muscles adapting/changing/stretching and I need to exercise more?
can anyone advise?
