My sister's oldest boy has now been in the hospital for 8 days.

Original symptoms were a severely upset tummy with uncontrolled vomiting.
He was taken in to get intravenous anti-nausea meds which helped.
Went home and was found unconcious by his mom.

Back in and hooked up to blood pressure and urine sampling equipment.
He has intermittent episodes, once or twice a day ~ 20 minutes long.
During these, his blood pressure goes to 200/160 or higher, heart rate 200 bpm or higher.
His pupils dilate and he feels panic and anxiety.

He is a straight A student, gifted musician and published author, lives in his parent's basement; no drugs or alcohol.

He is being given Alpha and Beta blockers, has had an almost full body CT scan and we are no further ahead.

Please help!

  • My 25 year old daughter was hospitalized for 9 days in January with chronic vomiting and sharp abdominal pain. They never were able to stop the vomiting, and ran all kinds of tests. She was finally referred to a specialist -- (her gallbladder number was borderline, as were her numbers on the test that measures the rate the stomach empties itself out.) The surgeon recommended removing her gallbladder as a "diagnostic tool" -- (WTH?) She had surgery a few days ago, and nothing has changed, she still has pain and chronic vomitting. I have heard that much like shellfish allergies, one can slowly become intolerant to all kinds of chemical additives that are in our foods. You go along just fine, and then one day the body rebels. I haven't been able to have her tested for all allergies yet, as the cost is pretty steep. If there is an alternative health care facility I would suggest that you have a broad spectrum allergy test done. Good luck to us both!
