Hello all,

I'm an 18 year old female, still at school (and about to sit my A levels, in fact). These past six months I've been back and forth to my local health centre, mostly seeing a different doctor each time (it's a nightmare trying to get an appointment, and unless you want to wait a month it's generally better to just take whoever you can get...). I've described symptoms to each of these doctors as follows: Joint pain (with weakness) and stiffness (worse in morning, stiffness is helped by movement, but pain is not), fingers and feet are particularly affected but also knees and elbows, swelling of fingers and swelling/tenderness of one foot in particular (affected area becomes hot and red), Nausea and low grade fever and diziness also fairly regular. Another difficult factor is that the symptoms tend to come and go; some days I feel entirely normal, and other days I'm affected by all of the above to a degree where it affects my life in a big way.

I've been back and forth, as already mentioned, and every single time I've been sent for 5/6 different blood tests, all of which have returned normal. None of the doctors have really explained what I'm being tested for, they've only told me that I'm not anemic and that they're not repeating any tests that the centre has already done (rather impressed by the sheer number of different tests they have!)

I'm getting frustrated, and meanwhile my symptoms (when they do appear) are worsening (to the point where I can't write and using a knife and fork becomes difficult). Please, please... any suggestions?

  • Lupus, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis come to mind... I wish I knew what they tested you for and what blood test they actually ran. You can request a copy of your medical records and lab results if you didn't know that.. just go to the office and tell them you need a copy of your chart.. then go to another physician office. Did they test your urine? What is in your family history? Do you have insurance?

  • I know they've done, for example, rheumatoid factor and tests for inflammation etc. They haven't done any urine tests, just blood tests. And so much for not being anemic, I went back today and was informed that my iron levels are only one point above abnormal (10-30 are considered ok... I'm on 10). I live in the UK, so healthcare being free here, don't require insurance. Thanks in advance.

  • There are many types of tick fever (rickettsia) that look exactly like this. Bugs on birds also spread it, so you need to have been tested properly for its bacteria.Boost your immune system all you can. Get homeopathic Resque Remedy or Nervuton. Add Vitamin-B12 (complex), Omega-3 (salmon oil) and of Vitamin-C 1000 mg (slow release). Also avoid heated oil (cook food and flavour with unheated extra virgin olive oil) and avoid processed foods (containing hydrogenated vegetable oil, additives etc). If you use supplements already, be sure not to overdo it! Too much of it can have the results you describe. As it might be arthritis: eliminate BREAD, caffeine, spices (especially curry), alcohol, chocolate, tomatoes, carbonated drinks, and highly acidic foods such as citrus. Eliminate ALL bread, including pizza, cakes etc, until you are well. Actually the problem is the way yeast reacts with other stuff, but even bread without yeast is a problem. If these don't help yet, eliminate red meat and chicken. Tuna in a tin (with brine) is still okay. Make a list of what you can have. Sterilized (long life) milk is okay. Cabbage is VERY good, also butternut. Flavour with plenty garlic and Trocomare salt. Carbohydrates should be less in case of bacteria however you have to eat something, try butternut.First thing every morning consider taking a urinary alkalinizer. We get a good one over here called Citro-Soda, containing sodium bicarbonate, tartaric acid, citric acid and sodium citrate. It's safe over the long term. Only beware, taking more than indicated can make one feel awful. Drink more water.Colloidal silver is a truly miraculous cure, I could write you a book about it. See www.nutrasilver.com for a type you can take internally. Here in ZA we brew our own, it has proven consistently better than any med or antibiotic, for almost any problem. If it is properly made there are no side effects. See www.tetrahedron.org/articles/colloidal_silver.htmlAlso please read, on these forums, http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=12933 and http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=9052 - long threads, not exactly your case but the answers are relevant.

  • Friends of mine here may soon advise you that it could be an energetic (aura) allergy for anything and that you should have NAET tests done (as seen in the last 2 links I mention). Yes it could be anything - yes by all means get some NAET, it's great. But there is more to my story than I have time to explain. The homeopath didn't test me, he explained it to be a general fix. Scores of family and friends with spinal injury, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle pain, haemorrhoids etc. have also now tried this (no bread, no meat) and it worked perfectly. The one that failed had serious tick fever, which required antibiotics. So while you wait for a NAET appointment, or you have to write exams - try my story. For arthritis (any of the 150 different kinds) you need to get rid of excess uric acid, same as for bladder infections. Meat and chicken are furthermore ******n the immune system, more toxic and different from other foods when they digest, and this is made even worse by what the animals are now fed. They also affect your frequency a lot (chakra stuff). By changing that for a while you fight bugs better. Also please try to get a homeopathic remedy for gout. Only take homeopathic drops (directly on the tongue) while there are no other tastes in the mouth.

Only take homeopathic drops (directly on the tongue) while there are no other tastes in the mouth.I'm already vegetarian and exclude all meat and fish from my diet (eat eggs and dairy though). My diet is good (says the doc) and well supplemented for lack of meat by eating pulses, grains, soya products, microprotein and a range of dark green vegetables to ensure iron (though that doesn't seem to be working too well at the moment, considering my low iron. I can possibily attribute that to the bleeding I've had from the contraceptive implant for the last 6 months which is now finally beginning to settle).I saw another doctor at my health centre on Thursday past, and didn't particularly like what he had to say. He basically suggested that there was no physical cause for my symptoms, and that they are a result of depression. I have dysthymia, so I am generally always depressed to a mild degree, and at the moment I'm functioning rather well despite it. The doctor tried to convince me that the symptoms I described (as above in my first post) are a result of depression and don't have a physiological cause. My problem with this is that I've had dysthymia for a long time, years, in fact, and I've never had these symptoms, nor did the symptoms appear at a time where the depression was any more severe than usual. So I'm highly reluctant to accept this diagnosis, but according to this doctor, all other causes have been ruled out (If that's true I'm highly impressed, since all they've done is to test my blood a few times and generally haven't asked me questions about my symptoms or even physically examined me). In the last five minutes of the consultation, it occured to him to test for coeliac disease, so I'm pending the results of that test.

  • SOY products? Do yourself a big favour and read this: www.westonaprice.org/soy/complaints.html whole page (!) and http://thyroid.about.com/cs/soyinfo/a/soy.htm .. There is a lot of soy in commercial bread and many other products. It may also cause your dysthymia.I'm impressed with other pages at Westonaprice.org such as www.westonaprice.org/askdoctor/ Testing for thyroid function is highly dubious. You may also want to read "The Effects of Fluoride on the Thyroid Gland" at http://rense.com/general57/FLUR.HTM .. We get "Dabur" Ayurvedic toothpaste here, from India - works well, nice flavours, no evil Colgate effects.

  • please note that Lupus, rheumatoid and several others are often confused with ME...if you haven't visited site...when you go, click on ME symptoms List...scroll down the whole page...it will outline sx according to body systems...write down every sx you have, no matter how trivial it seems or how infrequent it happens...ME sx come and go...it's very confusing at first but I think you will find many answers there...God Bless You...mommy cat
