My hip problem started about 6 weeks ago... actuall about 6 months ago I just did not decide to find medical help since I thought maybe it was due to new activity level. The symptoms cried trochantic hip burstis to the doctor so he gave me a cortisone injection. OMG the injection has just made everthing worse instead of better.

Now I think my Piniformis muscle is inflammed something offel since I bad to severe sciatic nerve pain. I went back into the doctor and told him what was going on... he ordered an MRI of the lumbar area and my back is fine. Then he told me... well it takes about 12 weeks for back conditions to heal them selves then said there was nothing that really could be done.

Not to get on a soap box about this doctor... could he have missed the target with the cortisone injection and hit the piniformis tendon or something in the hip? Or could I actually have something else going on in the hip... he never did Xrays or anything.

  • My MRI revealed a posture annual tear in the disc and the Orthopedic said there is nothing wrong with the spine????? But the small herneation is not near the sciatic nerve, according to the results, so what ever is going on in generating from the hip / pelvis area. The Ortho determined it to be tronchantic bursitis and gave me another cortisone injection. 10 days later the bursa is twice as big as it was before I got the 2nd injections and the back of my thigh is swollen from butt to half way down my leg. I just do not understand how a trochantic bursa inflammation can cause sciatica pain? The Ortho did not take hip xrays neither... which also confuses me, don't they usually to rule out other problems first? Every muscle in my right buttocks hurts and now the tendon infront of the hip is giving me trouble. I have been icing, heating, stretching and exercising and had to slow way down at my job (lots of bending and walking). I going to PT tomorrow hopefully she can better ****s what is going on and report it to the Ortho. It reminds me when I get wrist tendonitis from doing to much computer work... mild pain in the morning but if I do computer work within an hour the pain becomes untolerable again so have to lay back from to much typing and mouse.
