I'm bulimic and felt like my body gave up. What happened to me?

I've had eating disorders since I was 12 (6 years). For the past 2 1/2 years I've been dealing with bulimia and no one but myself and a friend knows. The other day I had a bad experience.
-Woke up lethargic.
-When I would stand up/walk I was dizzy/vision blurred/heart felt racey/droppy
-I ate lunch and went to purge it up in the bathroom.
-I started purging and fell down. I started experiencing diarhhea. I felt like my heart kept stopping and starting, my body went numb/tingled, and I felt as though I had no control whatsoever over myself. Could barely move. Couldn't speak. My sister found me in the floor and I couldn't respond. I just "knew" I was dying. I kept going in and out of consciousness, vision blurred, heart felt like it was giving up and I felt like my body was locking up and shutting down. I was terrified but could barely speak. She helped me up and I was finally able to slowly walk(with help) and speak a bit. We went to the ER. My blood pressure was extremely low,
I was very dehydrated, and my heart rate/pulse kept dropping and getting higher and then dropping again. They gave me an ekg and kept checking my stats. The doctor said I has a vasovagal episode but that's basically just fainting and I know that wasn't all it was. I'm supposed to go to a cardiologist at some point. What do you think it could have been, because I honestly feel it was more serious than a vasovagal syncope because I (and I handle pain/illness well) felt my heart/body was giving up on me and I was dying, and I didn't have the courage to tell him everything that happened to me. He basically thought I went into the bathroom and fainted.

What do you think happened?

P.S
I'm going to try to give up bulimia but I've been trying for months and it's hard to give up.

Thank you.

  • It is very important that you get medical help. Your body is telling you that you cannot go on this way. You are not getting your nutritional needs met, are probably deficient in necessary elements and vitamins that keep homeostasis in your body. Please seek out a psychiatrist to help you with your eating disorder. There is no stigma or shame in admitting you need help. BTW, I have BiPolar I Disorder aka Manic Depressive, and have had periods of bulemia surface.I hope you are concerned enough to help yourself right away. There may not be another chance.God Bless!

  • Feeling dizzy and faint after standing up can occur from poor diet. Being bulimic would be poor diet. Even just sitting for a moment and then walking away, and five minutes later having the room spinning is caused from the blood draining from your brain, as well as your ears rebalancing (there are little balls in your ears with water to let you know if you are upright)As for your episode, I had a friend who was aneroxic since she was 12 as well, and once went through the throwing-up-in-trashbags-in-her-room phase, got out of the tub, and felt like her body was giving up on her as well, and went to the ER, etc. She went to rehab a few times for eating disorders actually, but there is definitly a change in her health when she is eating and keeping it down.I suggest you tell a doctor everything. Your old doctor or a new doctor.
