I got a severe headache after coughing one morning. The following day my neck was stiff and the headache continued for a week. I saw a MD and was told to go to the ER. They, thinking it was a anuerysm, performed two cat scans, numerous xrays, three MRI's, blood work and finally a lumbar puncture. One week in the hospital and all tests proved nothing was wrong. I've been home a week and the headached continues - 22 days now. Pain pills, antibiotic, over the counter headache pills and nothing works. I'm at a loss for relief.

  • where is the pain located in your head? How old are you? I have had similar headaches and was just diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis. All test results had come back negative as well, please note that just because those tests came back negative does not mean there is nothing wrong, ask your doctor to give you a steroid and see if you get relief. It is the only treatment for this disease. I suffered for 5 weeks and no relief until I was given a steroid, I have been pretty much headache free for 4 days now while more testing is performed. Do not let them give up, it is not imaginary and could cause some very serious complications if not diagnosed properly.

  • Be aware all headache suffers! My second trip to the ER said my problem was sinus related. They were partially correct. It ended up I had an abscess tooth which when pulled cause a hole from my mouth into my sinuses. Poor teeth can cause other problems with your body. Make sure you check you sinuses and/or teeth for headache related problems.
