I have headaches that happen daily. They start in the right side of the base of the skull and radiate up to my right eye with the main pain being in the back of the head. Feels like a sledge hammer has struck me over and over again. I'd been diagnosed with Ice Pick Headaches but the pain lasts longer than the 5 to 30 second intervals i've read about. They can last as long as 10 hours without meds. When i take the inderol and sleep, i normally wake up without one but as the day progresses, WHAM! I get them every day for weeks on end and then i go a few days without then they're back again. I close my eye and i get shooting white patches with the pain. I really don't know what to do as these incompacitate me for the most part and i have small children....i am 48 years old and female. I've had these headaches on and off now for 8 years and enough is enough.

  • I don't know if these are migraines or if they have considered it. Most headaches tend to lend towards migraines, I have migraines really bad they people can't even touch me, I think this is due to the fact that I had minigitis when I was a baby. Have you heard of Topmax? Those really work i'm also on two different meds for the migraines but Topmax really work for headaches and might even help yours. Hope this helps.

  • I too am on topamax and I love it. Need to be very careful of it because I got Kidney stones the first three days I was on it. When they tell you to drink plenty of water "do it". Go to the eye doctor because that is where I started (vision problems and headaches). I have had an MRI in the last two weeks and yesterday I had a lumbar Puncture. I was diagnosed with Migranes but in the MRI they found white spots in my brian and they are looking at MS. Jump on it and go different avenues if you don't seem to be getting answers.Best wishes to you and your family.

  • i don't have the classic "migraine" with the nausea or sensitivity to light. I'd had them years ago and would mostly occur on my left side. These are on my right side but i don't have the nausea or light thing. Right now i haven't had one in 3 days/ knock on wood. They do this...come on for days on end and then leave for awhile. Then come on with a vengence.

Hope this helps.Hi I was wondering if the Topmax cost alot?, I have been fighting migraines for years now. The medication that my doctor gives me cost almost $200 for 9 pills. So most of the time I just roll around and cry until they go away. They started when I was around 17 and now I am 41 and still having to deal with them. My mother told me when she hit her late 30's they went away. I don't have health insurance so most medication are off limits for me. I would jsut love not to have to deal with the whole migraine thing. It makes it so hard when your kids want to do something and you feel like it's the end of the world until your head stops hurting.:0) Please email me if you can and let me know on the price. I will ask my Doctor about it.Bchellebak4@aol.com.. I will never find my way back to this site. Thanks mechelle

  • Hi, from all my own personal research, it sounds to me as if you have Cluster Headaches. My family suffers from these. My brother used the Imitrex Shot and has not had an episode for three yrs now. My son was on the Topomax, but we feel his are from stress, not CLUSTERS, there is a BIG difference. You should see a neurologist, they could advise you best. Good Luck!

  • HI TO ALL YOU SUFFERERS OF ACCUTE HEADACHES!, MY NAME IS JAYNE, I AM 43 YRS OLD AND STILL SUFFERING FROM HEADACHES, (FOR WHAT SEEMS LIKE, COUNTLESS YEARS). I HAVE TAKEN ALL SORTS OF PAIN KILLERS, NOW I THINK MY BODY IS IMMUNE TO THEM!...I HAVE BEEN ON THIS FORUM BEFORE AND ASKED FOR ANY ADVICE, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE ONLY TEST THAT I HAVE'NT HAD IS AN MRI SCAN, ALL THE OTHER TESTS ,THEY SAY, HAVE PROVEN NEGATIVE, THEY SAY THAT I HAVE "CLASSIC MIGRAINE SYMPTOMS", EVERY TIME.SURELY TO GOD YOU DON'T HAVE MIGRAINE 24/7. THIS HAS TRULY EFFECTED MY LIFE AND THE REST OF THE FAMILY, MOST OF THE TIME I'M TOO POORLY TO TAKE PART IN FAMILY ACTIVITIES. I ALSO SUFFER FROM IRRITABLE BOWEL SYNDROME, I HAVE LEARNT TO LIVE WITH THIS AND I CAN COPE, BUT THESE HEADACHES ARE A DIFFERENT MATTER ENTIRELY. I BELIEVE THAT THE MEDICAL PROFFESSION DO NOT KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME AND THEY SAY "KEEP TAKING THE TABLETS AND HOPE IT WILL GO AWAY". I KNOW AN MRI SCAN IS EXPENSIVE AND THEY ARE RELUCTANT TO CARRY OUT ONE ON ME DUE TO THE COST,(BUDGETS).I AM TOO FRIGHTENED TO HAVE A LUMBAR PUNCTURE AS YOU HAVE TO BE FULLY CONCIOUS WHEN THE PROCEDURE IS CARRIED OUT.BOY AM I FED UP WITH LIFE, I WONDER WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO BE FREE OF PAIN!!!.CAN ANY ONE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT. IT WOULD BE GRATEFULLY WELCOMED. JAYNE .

  • I have had a constant headache and nausea for the past 11 month. I have been on numerous medicines and only get minimal relief. I recently had a lumbar puncture and it wasn't that bad. I thought it was going to be really painful, but it was just a little uncomfortable. I would go and get one done every morning if it would take away this constant headache and nausea that I have.

  • Hi Robin,With your description of your headaches, it sounds a lot like Occipital Neuralgia, which is nerve pain, in the occipital nerve(back of head/neck). My headaches are similar, but on the left side of my head/neck/eye, and I was diagnosed with Occipital Neuralgia in '06. I have nerve blocks regularly and they work well for me. ~Jaime~ I have headaches that happen daily. • Have you tried any preventative treatment? There are several classes of prophylactic medications:Antidepressants (e.g. amitriptyline, nortriptyline)Beta-blockers (e.g. propranolol, atenolol)Anticonvulsants (e.g. divalproex, topamax, gabapentin)Angiotensin blockade agents (e.g. lisinopril)May be you what to try non-drug treatment options. Some people find relief from headaches with therapies like biofeedback or acupuncture.
