About 12 years ago i was diagnosed with Vibration White Finger or Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome. I was graded as the most severe on the Taylor Pelmer Scale and similar on the Stockholm Workshop Scale.I have since recieved an out of court settlement from my last employer. This was in the late 1990s.I have been unable to work since 1997 and now in 2009 i am recieving less per fortnight than i was getting paid a week back in the day.
Well now Twelve years on i have been seen by a Very Senior Vascular Surgeon. He says my symptoms are not consistant with VWF or HAVS. The symptoms are Severe Pain, Total loss of Sensation, Gripping Problems, Whiteness of Hands, Pins And Needles, Hands Appear to "Be Asleep" and Totally Usless,Pain that last all day everyday. These are most prevalent at night when the hands totally stop working when in bed. Desperate pain and numbness when waking regularly at nights.
This has totally destroyed me as i have lived like this for twelve years and now i am back to square one. This has affected all my family from inlaws to wife and kids etc. At times suicidal thoughts have manifested and i am now been treated for Depression.
After years of taking high strength painkillers and other medication this situation seems like a very bad dream.
This been said today has started me thinking about possible causes. I am no expert but it sounds very like Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. This can be maintained through drugs etc and possible surgery. If caught soon enough. We have at no time disputed the first diagnosis for Twelve years but now we need clarity.
Is this grounds for medical misconduct been misdiagnosed for twelve years, it has nearly ruined my life and not to say the mental trauma i and my family have suffered.
