Rapidly spreading pain and swelling, no injury-What is wrong with my hand?!?

About 3 days ago I woke up with my left index finger aching. I didn't think much about it until yesterday when the pain worsened and had spread to the rest of my hand. I have not injured my finger, hand, or arm so I was puzzled. Then today I woke up with my hand throbbing and a pins and needles sensation. The pain has spread halfway up my forearm, but remains most severe in the original finger it affected. Also, there is now significant swelling that extends from my hand to my wrist. A friend suggested I might have a spider bite, so I looked and there is some type of almost healed bite on that hand. However, I think spider bites cause more damage to the skin. Normally, I would have gone to the doctor by now about this, but I do not have insurance right now and would like to avoid going if at all possible, especially if it is just a matter of this going away on its own. Anyone have any ideas?

  • I have almost same problem, it started on my elbow and weeks later went to my wrist and hand. Now my middle finger gets stuck. I did some research and looks like I have trigger finger. I guess my nerves are affected by this. Looks like meds for inflammatory would be good to take. I do miss my fully functional hand makes me feel 80 and I'm not. It's not life threatening just annoying and painfull. I too don't have insurance so I know how you feel. Oh and it could be caused bu diabetics or arthritis. I don't have either one, but who knows since I have not seen a doc. Resting the hand works for me but I love to crochet so I stil do regardless of pain. Good luck
