Numb areas of hand

Hi I accidentally stabbed my hand with a steak knife while trying to scratch initials into one of my kids toys in the height of frustration. Long story. The area below my middle finger is numb and also an area up my arm to my elbow and on the back of my hand. I can move my fingers although it hurts as I've just recently done this. Would this normally heal by itself or is it serious enough to see the GP? It's a small entry wound and didn't bleed much and doesn't look like much at all.
