Middle Finger

I was cleaning inside my oven (where I shouldn't have been) with a damp cloth and I punctured my middle finger.
The blood was gushing out and it was painful. I went to the ER and had one stitch put in. It's been 3 months now and the tip of my finger is still numb. I read that there are two main nerves that if stretched or cut will leave finger tip numb.

Should the doctor had mentioned that?
