Last year I woke up and my left elbow was swollen the size of a grapefruit. Found out it was just bursitis, but it is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me. I was hospitalized because they initially thought it was a blood infection. Hence, I hate going to the doctor when they misdiagnose and in the end, never come to a conclusion as to what the ailment is!!!! Can anyone understand my frustration??

Over the last week or so my middle finger joint, in both hands, down to "no mans land" is VERY sore. In the middle of the night I awake and the pain is bad. It is a dull, achy pain. I have not strained my hands or done anything out of the ordinary.

My grandmother suffered from RA for many years, but she could not take the medicines offered because she had tuberculosis when she was younger.

I had an ANA, an RA Factor, a sed rate test done recently and everything was in order.

I cannot for the life of me figure out way there is this pain. I hate going to the doctor about it because they know as much as I know about it and they will prescribe things I have already tried, i.e., heat, ice, mild exercise.

I am a 45 years old white male and in good health. I am also HIV positive and have been for 16 years, asymptomatic the whole time.

Could this be the beginning of something more serious? What things should I be thinking about for the cause? What kind of specific tests should I ask the doctor to run?? Also, any reading material or blogs anyone may have connections to would be helpful. Thanks for reading.
