Bruising on fingers and thumbs

My fingers and thumb bruise spontaneously. Before this occurs I am aware that something is wrong because I get a tight feeling in my metacarpal phalangeal joints. If I subsequently use or bend them they bruise and I experience a painful sensation. this can occur quite spontaneously and there are long episodes where I have no symptoms at all and I can use my hands freely. However I am an acupuncturist and I need to use my hands for work. I am concerned that if this condition starts to occur too frequently it may interfere with my job.

Please help, my doctor has no idea of what it can be despite sending photographs of my condition to get a diagnosis.

Many thanks

  • As soon as one gets the sensation that a bruise is going to occur apply direct pressure - only needs about two to three minutes to stop the progression of bleeding. This works for potential blood blisters as well.
