I am posting on behalf of my mom. She turned 60 a few months ago and now all of a sudden started to lose clumps of hair. Losing hair is not a problem, but it's come so suddenly and not gradual. She has low thyroid and so has been taking medicine for that for years. More recently her thyroid level has actually started to come up and approached normal.
Her normal physician has said it just because of age. While that's a good explanation, I would expect effects to be more gradual and not so sudden.
Could there be any other cause for the sudden hair loss and any other things we should look at? Any suggestions for treatment?
thank you very much in advance!
