diagnosed with folliculitis

I was diagnosed with folliculitis about 5 years ago, after having my hair colored blonde. Since then, I have let my hair go back to natural, haven't gotten a perm or colored it since. I have had a few bouts with this maybe once every 2 or 3 months. In the last month, I have gotten a sore on my head and an extremely painful swollen lymph gland right behind my ear or on my jaw. This week I have noticed 2 new sores and I have a sore, very swollen lymphnode right behind my ear, but also 2 swollen lymphnodes on my neck that aren't causing any pain at all. I have been using bactroban and mild hair products, but they seem to keep getting worse, and the extra lymphnodes without the pain is really starting to worry me. When I saw the dermatologist, he never explained that this would be a recurring thing. What can I do to prevent these flare ups and is there a chance that that could be something else going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't know much about this problem besides what I have learned online, and I have been back to the Dr. several times and they all say it is the same thing, but don't offer much advice regarding this.

Thanks so much,
