Crawling, itchy feeling on scalp, not lice

Hello,

I hope someone here can help me. I'm getting desperate. I'm a female in my late 30s. I have this weird problem with my scalp, and no doctor can find anything wrong. It's driving me crazy.

The best way to describe it, once in a while I feel like something is crawling on my head. Usually it's the top back of my head but I've gotten it in other spots too.

Before I go on, please don't say lice - I've had lice as a kid, twice. I know all about them, and I've already checked for them. My hair is short so it's easy to make sure. I've had these symptoms for close to two years now, but the other 3 people in my household are fine (and my kids get lice checkups at school every week).

My hair and scalp are completely clean. I don't have dandruff or any strange rashes, bumps, etc., either. Some days I don't feel any itching at all. Other days it's bothering me constantly. Sometimes it's not just my scalp but the sides of my face, my neck, and ears, like little hairs or spiderwebs tickling me, except there's nothing there. The weirdest part is that it mostly happens when I'm at home. Whenever I'm outside or indoors but not in my house, my head feels normal. Also it doesn't bother me at night at all. It's like someone switches it off the moment I get into bed.

It usually gets worse on hot days, or right before it's time to wash my hair. Washing it helps, but at this point I'm washing it every other day, and I don't want to get to the point where I'm doing it every single day, which I heard isn't healthy.

Could this be psychological? Hormonal? Could dust mites cause this? Other mites?

Please help me out, any ideas and theories are welcome. Thank you.

  • I went thru this and actually got rid of it...crawling sensation on my face daily.....itchy hands. Over many months it got worse.. crawling all over my head and face and slowly started moving down my body where I started feeling pin *****s. Doctors no help, couldn't find any bugs, long story kept short: My cats which go in and out of the house freely, got mange, I told my vet about the symptoms and she's had it before and it was scabies. Problem is docs couldn't find it because I was always fighting the symptoms and self treating. Shower with menthol selsum blue, bathe with ammonia in the water - kicked scabies behind! Buy tubes of permethrin and Eurax cream online and used both at the same time added clove oil to it sometimes. Ate horse ivermectin. Great relief BUT..Kept getting reinfested, couldn't clean enough, so following vets directions, I left pesticide bombs all over the house and moved out for 3 wks. Kept treating with perm and cleaned new empty apartment daily. Cured!

  • For the person who said they saw clear tiny bugs, my apt got infested with rat mites, and they are as small as a period at the end of a sentence and totally clear until they feed a lot, and then turn black. Very similar to bird mites if you were thinking it was coming from trees. Good news is that while a lot of people freak out about it, all I had to do was wash my bedding and get some Revolution on my cat, who was drawing them in. Oh and my landlord exterminated the rats under the unit next door!

  • I would look into Morgellons disease! I too have been suffering from the itchy crawling feelings, but throughout my whole body. I have been told by many doctors that it has to do a lot with nerve damage caused by stress and depression and physical damage to the body over the years. I started doing my research and came upon Morgellons Disease.. It fits a lot of my symptoms. I hope this helps!

  • I am suffering from this crawling problem from the last 1 and a half year. There is no lice etc. nothing on the scalp. I am in depression I think but haven't told anyone about this. This problem is increasing day by day on my hair scalp. Sometimes it is on forehead too.I observed where it starts I am losing all the hairs there on my front side hairs. Now it is on middle and I am so afraid of losing the hair on that portion too. Went to two doctors used medicine but nothing helped. Please tell me what should I do? Which doctor should I visit?
What should I do? Please help

  • So my stepdaughter had lice a couple months ago & unfortunately I picked it up, we treated & checked etc it was gone.. About 2wks later my head began to itch at first it was only itching but app 2-3wks after the itching the crawling sensation began. We checked for lice & supposedly I don't have it. Since then the itching n crawling are getting worse & it also affects my ears, neck, side of my face, forehead, eyes (lashes/lids) shoulders, arms, my hair is thinning, from all the scratching. I've started actually scratching so badly I'm breaking skin. It comes & goes its mostly at night when Im in bed.. Tonight is the absolute worst as the severity of the itching woke me up. I'm literally scratching so badly I'm hurting myself so I cut my nails. I do have dry scalp (sometimes) oh my god I hate this!! Advice???

  • I couldn't help myself.... this is the only simular thing I have found that has most of the effects I am experiencing myself..... my head was the first thing. The only way I can describe it is like electricity at one point I was getting electrical shocks from light switches!... I know that sounds like dodgy wiring but it's stopped now..... I have a titanium hip replacement and every year I do x rays and blood checks as one day I will have metal poising in my blood as it increases every year.. so that was another self diagnosis....
I was ran over a few years ago and got a fractured skull now the scars on my head seem to raise up and scab when ever I get this itching..... I've never had anything like this it's awful at times but my head just does not feel the same.. my hair to touch feels so different too it is definitely very static!....
I've had the head itch in the past and was diagnosed with stress, so having just come out of a toxic relationship I assumed it was the stress

  • I can totally relate to a lot of the symptoms describe here... Feeling crawling on my head usually around the top, I don't have dandruff but theses little white things on my scalp and like sticking onto stands of hair or falling when I shake my hair around. Also feeling somethinig was on the tip of my nose, or the side of my mouth, or the top of my head. My ears also form the white things like on my scalp.
I absolutely have tried everything...tea tree oil, lemon, baking soda, apple cider, anit dandruff shampoos/treatment just to name a few, Something have made it clear up a little and some completely worse or pointless.
ITS FRUSTRATING ME LIKE CRAZY... I've been searching the internet for answers and this page by far has exactly what I'm relating too.

  • Hello, your problem and concern can be answered and in so doing I will attach a website link with more adequate information, but allow me to state here briefly, that the condition you are faced with affects a great deal of people. However, probably at much different levels, therefore the necessity for alarm has not been sounded. By that, I mean it depends upon our lifestyle and that of our molecular arrangement. Remember being a child we were more grounded in our connection to life and by that I mean we were as involved with high levels of electronics. Therefore we were barefoot and fancy free having a life that was neutralized, but as we got older our lives changed, we adapted to the environment and began to take on more charge than we had, thus becoming positively charged over that of being neutral. Being so, we need to discharge some of this extra voltage and what you are feeling or sensing is static electricity being released. https://www.lewrockwell.com/2013/05/joseph-mercola/are-
