I'd like to know about why I'm having this symptom. When standing especially for long periods but even for short periods... my legs especially the calves and ankles get really itchy. Even when I'm standing over the stove cooking dinner, or standing in church. What could be the cause and treatment of this problem?

  • Yes, I have exactly the same problem too. It usually starts in the legs when I'm cooking in the kitchen, I think it's the longest time I'm spending just standing on my feet and not walking. It doesn't stop when I'm done, though - it goes all over my body, even on top of my head. Poor circulation makes sense, because it is definitely an internal problem, but it could easily be something else. Many years ago I had a similar problem, but the itch was only around my thighs, belly and behind. It was terrible, I couldn't help it and had to 'discretely' scratch in front of my clients and coworkers. Then I saw a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctor who told me it was my liver, and that I should stop eating grapefruits every morning. I did, and the itch stopped. Has anyone else tried Chinese medicine?

  • I get the itching too. It feels like hundreds of ant bites at one time, but I just assumed it was from the lymphedema that i was diagnosed with. Maybe u should check into that too.

  • it could be something called 'postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome' i have exactly the same problem, and i have been to the doctors many of times about it they suggested it could be an allergy, they also checked my blood and then said it might be lack of vitamin D. since visiting the doctors and taking the medication they gave me the problem has continued, i have looked on the internet and all the symptoms of P.O.T.S are what i experience dizzyness, feeling faint, itchy blotchy legs on standing. doctors dont usually know about this condition, but it would be good to go to your GP and mention POTS or find a neurologist as it is to do with your nervous system.

  • Yep i get this too,
It's really annoying and happens really quickly for me (about within 30 sec)
The only reason I could come up with is that it could be blood circulation.
Personally The most comfortable postition to sit in is a buddah postition with both my legs crossed over,
Maybe if I stop this the itching will stop
    (HOPEFULLY!)

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • I had it for a few years, then it got worst, and then I had pins & needles in feet & hands.I did google search & found out that it is peripheral neuropathy.. B vitamins, including B-1, B-6 and B-12, vitamin E and niacin are crucial to nerve health. I checked food sources of these vitamins, I was completely deficient in vit.B1-I did not eat grains. My itching disappeared.
