Ulcer or Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

My doctor has been trying to diagnose my stomach pains for nearly a year now. Symptoms indicate could be either an ulcer or possibly I.B.S., but the various doctors I have seen are just going in endless circles - leaving me without a diagnosis, but still with the pain.

I get a heavy weight on my stomach whenever I eat, I have more gas than I have ever had in my entire life (I have never been able to burp voluntarily before, but now it's almost all the time).

I was asked to go for an endoscopy, but due to previous (unrelated) medical conditions there would be a very, very minute chance of contamination of the scope, so it was cancelled at the very last minute. Instead, I was sent for a barium meal - this did not show anything.

Blood tests have not shown the H.Pylori bacteria, but now I am being sent for another round of blood test - and may have the promised breathe test, but have not had that yet.

My latest GP visit suggested I.B.S. as a possible alternative diagnosis, but it seems from reading on Wikipedia that there is no actual test for I.B.S. and no real cure.

I am just left wondering what I have and how I can fix it? Anyone been in the same boat?
