Strange 'things' in stool...

This is embarrassing-thankful for internet anonymity! My 48 year old husband, good general health, has small (1/4 in) comma-like 'things' in his stool. They are hard and appear to me to be some sort of seed-like things as opposed to worms or eggs.

He eats a lot of cereal so I was thinking it's something from the corn ingredients? He doesn't really have any other symptoms, oh-he has mucus sometimes too.

Any ideas? Thank you for helping!
